We were thrilled recently to be able to donate an accessible family holiday at Cossington Park to the Sandcastle Trust as a prize. This wonderful charity provides invaluable support to families living with rare genetic conditions. Their Memories Family Respite Service offers much-needed accessible breaks in the UK with accommodation catering to family’s specific needs.

Through this donation, we had the pleasure of hosting Max, twin sister Evie, Mum Jayne and Stepdad Martin for a well-deserved family holiday at Cossington Park Cottage. As Max relies on a mobility scooter, accessible accommodation is a must for them when on holiday.

When renovating our beautiful Victorian cottage, accessibility was a top priority. The ground floor features level access throughout, as well as wide doorways, an accessible wetroom, a downstairs bedroom, and ramps at the front entrance and in the garden.

Not only did this level of accessibility allow the whole family to spend quality time together, but Max was also able to have the same level of independence he has at home.

Max’s mum, Jayne, had this to say about their time at Cossington Park:

“Cossington Park Cottage is fantastic! The staff are friendly, the ambiance is tranquil, the facilities are extensive and there is meticulous attention to detail.

There is a well-equipped and accessible games room with table tennis, pool table, darts, and more.

You can also pick your own fresh fruit and veg from a large variety.

We visited with my son who uses a mobility scooter, and we were delighted to find that the cottage really is truly accessible.

There is a large downstairs bedroom and wet room, and a well thought out downstairs layout with level thresholds, wide doorways, and plenty of room to manoeuvre.

There is even a handy call bell in the wet room.

It really was an absolute delight to spend some quality family time at Cossington Park Cottage and I cannot recommend it highly enough.”

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the entire family. Special thanks to Max, an exceptionally talented Film & TV student,  who created this brilliant video of the cottage for us following their stay.
